ABC's and 123's

Ryan just turned 2 and has been growing in so many ways! He amazes me with everything he has been learning lately. He has been working on shapes and colors for awhile now and has become quite the pro. He even knows a hexagon and octagon, which is surprising.

However, it blew me away when he started recognizing all the letters he sees (capital letters). A few weeks ago we were in Belk and he started shouting "N", "Mommy, N". I looked where he was pointing and there was a huge NAUTICA sign. I confirmed the N and he started spelling the whole word. A few customers looked right at him and then asked me how old he was. They were just as shocked as I was. I hadn't taught him any letters except A and B at this point so I couldn't believe it. He saw how excited I was so he just kept on spelling it and smiling.

A few days later, I picked him up at Daycare, which is right across from Food Lion, and he started spelling out all the letters in Food Lion. I was shocked all over again. Ever since then, he has been quick to recognize all capital letters. Sometimes he gets K and X mixed up but that's still incredible. I am so proud of my little man!

Now if only he can become more consistent with his numbers. He can count to 10 when he tries but a lot of times he skips a letter or keeps saying "1, 2, 1, 2, 18" or something else way out there. Silly kiddo!

It's simply amazing watching him learn each day and taking so much in to become the sweet, smart boy that he is at 2 years old!

On another note, he used the big boy potty for the first time today and I couldn't be more proud!! We weren't going to start trying at home until he started the 2 year old room at daycare (That's when they start potty training at daycare). He started his new room last week so I asked them how they handle it there so we would do the same at home. I didn't know he would use it already! I know there will be set backs along the way and this may not be a daily thing just yet but it sure is a step in the right direction.
